Shout Out North Manc began with a simple but powerful idea: to shine a light on the creativity that thrives in our part of the city, even when it often goes unseen.
The story of Shout Out North Manc
As local creatives ourselves, we knew there were stories, voices and passions in North Manchester that deserved to be heard, celebrated, and connected.
What started as a conversation quickly grew into a journey through neighbourhoods, meeting people whose work adds so much colour, energy and spirit to our communities.
We are Malandra Jacks – two artists from Moston making film, theatre and art installations that share authentic stories and provide a platform for underrepresented voices – and Joe Hartley – a creative specialising in website creation, design, and branding.
Our focus took us across the wards of Cheetham, Miles Platting & Newton Heath, Moston, Charlestown, Harpurhey, Higher Blackley and Crumpsall.
In each place we met two creative individuals, groups or organisations – filmmakers, dancers, writers, musicians, painters, community builders – and invited them to share their stories.
We filmed, we recorded, and we listened as they invited us into their spaces and spoke about what drives them, how creativity shapes their lives, and the ways they bring inspiration to others.
These voices came together in a short film that premiered at the Irish Centre in Cheetham.
Over a hundred people gathered to celebrate local creativity, and the energy in the room was something we’ll never forget.
It was a warming reminder that people are hungry to connect with one another and to see the value of their own communities reflected back to them.
Following that, we were proud to show the film at HOME in Manchester city centre, opening the door for even more people to experience the wealth of talent North Manchester has to offer.
More than just a creative archive
For us, the website you are now visiting goes beyond being an archive of creative talent – it is the living legacy of Shout Out North Manc.
It carries forward the conversations we began, and it will continue to highlight the talent, connections and collaborations that make North Manchester such a vibrant place to live and create.
Creativity here is not a one-time spark but a constantly evolving force, passed from person to person, street to street, ward to ward.
Where will Shout Out North Manc go from here?
Our hope is that this platform grows with time, adding new stories, new voices and new ideas.
A go to place to find North Manchester creativity and for creatives to find each other.
By celebrating creativity in all its forms, we want to show that North Manchester is not just a place on the map, but a community alive with imagination, resilience and pride.
