Louise Thomson: Concert Harpist

Multi-Disciplinary
Music & Sound

Manchester Harp Festival's Artistic Director is a professional harp player with a range of diverse styles.

[Creativity is] a constant journey and we must always pedal and find ways of being unique. Following our own special path. A particular challenge is encouraging younger generations into classical music. Vibrant and interesting programming helps this.

What do you do creatively?

I create and share my work mainly in Concert venues and music societies, and also in interactive workshops for children and schools.

I’m so proud of all the wonderful programmes I have put together. From the virtuosic classical repertoire, to the magical musical stories for young people and their grown ups.

What is your connection to North Manchester?

I studied and now teach at Chetham’s School of music. Sharing my instrument’s creative possibilities in this area again is wonderful.
