The North Manchester Poet who supporting the community with care and creativity

I’m proud to be from North Manchester. I love its people, history, and community. We have our problems, but when things get tough, we stick together and look after each other.

What makes you proud of your local area or community?

That we can get a party started. Look at some of the local events. Cheetham Culture Festival, Africa Day in Moston, Malandra Jacks, and what they do, especially with the film Census. How can I not be proud!!!!

What creative project are you most proud of?

I am part of the Royal Exchange Theater ambassadors. In 2022, we brought The Den to Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall. Together with professionals and community members, we created a community play called Cold Chips & Pick and Mix, a play about people’s lives in Cheetham and Crumpsall.

We never expected the outcome. Not only did people enjoy the play, but we were nominated for the Manchester Culture Awards, and we won the category of Best in Manchester Award. A very proud moment for everyone who was involved.

What role do you think creativity plays in our community?

Creativity plays a massive role; it brings people together from all cultures, allowing them to express themselves without fear and boundaries.

It improves their well-being and helps them step out of their comfort zone in ways they never thought possible.
